NaNo Is Coming!! Do You Have A Story Ready?

Oh, boy! National Novel Writing Month is coming soon!  Just six days away!!! Ahhh! I’m so excited! Like you couldn’t tell, right?

I have been working on the synopsis for my novel Facade which I had started during Camp NaNo a couple of years ago, but never got too far with it. In that time I have implemented some changes so I’ll be doing some rewriting for NaNo this year. I am very excited and can’t wait to see what comes of this novel set in the 1930’s & 1950’s. It will be interesting to learn the lingo and culture of that ear.

My husband shocked me yesterday and told me he had a story idea and that he wanted to try his hand at NaNo! He has never written stories and works as a computer programmer, so this should be interesting. I listened to his idea (involving the USS Maine) and think he has a really good story. I can’t wait to read the story when he is finished with it!!

If you’d like to be my writing buddy for NaNo here is my link: http://nanowrimo.org/participants/jimonroe

Counting down the days until NaNo!

Best of luck everyone!

National Novel Writer’s Month Is Around the Corner

Here we are and it’s almost mid October already. Can you believe it? November is soon approaching and with that means National Novel Writers’ Month and writing so many words a day to reach that word count of at least 50,000 words.

Now is the time we must be thinking about what kind of story we would like to write, and live in for the next month….and really longer as I am sure many will continue to work on their books even after November ends until the book is finished. I know that is what I plan to do.

I am not sure what my story is going to be about. I love so many time periods it is hard to choose, but I also love fantasy and science fiction. Then there are always stories written based on real life experiences. I am not sure which I want to do yet. Thankfully I have a little time to think about it, but really I can’t think too long as I will need some time to work on background work for characters for whichever I choose to write. Ugh! It is so hard to decide when you have so many interests.

Do any of you find it hard to begin a story because you have so many things you are interested in writing about, or including in your story? How do you decide what to write about? I’d love to hear your comments.

Camp NaNoWriMo, General Updates

Back To It Again

Ah, so here we are again. I said I was going to take a break from writing and search out other things in life, like other interests, but there comes a problem when characters keep popping into my head and scenes play like moves, and story is just begging to be told. Characters sit in my head, acting out their stories, but their stories are not being heard. Why? Because I am not writing them.

It seems as though a writer cannot take a TRUE vacation from writing. It is in the very core of their being, part of what God built into them, into me. When I tried to pursue other interests, I realized that these other interests involved some kind of writing as well, so really, I wasn’t taking a break at all.

So I have decided to pick up one of the fictional stories I started last year for Camp NaNoWriMo called Lasting Shadow and see how much farther I can get with that. Finding my story and character sheets will be interesting. If I can’t find them already printed and sitting in my filing cabinet, I will have to print everything again, but that’s no big deal. I’ll just happy to write fiction and have fun doing it.

When my daughter is old enough, she’ll get to read my stories and that just brings a smile to my face. Also, to keep writing, is do not only what God built into me when he made me, but also to continue to pursue something my mother was very supportive of when she found out I wanted to be a writer in my early teen years. So in a way, writing is like honoring her memory as well. I’m sure she would be proud of me if I kept going, but perhaps disappointed if I stopped writing, but I don’t think that is an option for me. I have learned so much. Not just to write a novel, but how to social network, how to blog, how create my own book covers, how to publish via CreateSpace and Amazon KDP, writing press releases.

I have learned all of this and I am helping and elderly woman from my church by the name of Phyllis Georgina Rose who has just published her book The Rose Garden. I am using my skills to help her publish her books and help her books to become more known. All I can do is try my best and pray. God will have to take it the rest of the way.

You will find both Phyllis’ book and my books on www.goodreads.com as well as Amazon and other places online. I hope you check out our work!

We’ll continue to work hard so you have more to read. 🙂

Camp NaNoWriMo, Sackets Harbor, Writing Updates

Kindle Books

I’ve been busy today putting together some small poetry manuscripts for Kindle. The three that I published today were: Heat of the Night: A Collection of Poetry on Love, Day & Night: A Collection of Nature Poetry, and Everlasting Arms: A Collection of Religious Poetry. I think I had them set to sell for $0.99 but I will have to double check that. I also published, The History of Sackets Harbor, New York. Once the links become available for these works I will put up another post. Now that those are done I am going to get to work on Facade. I still need to work on some background information for characters and the bare bones of an outline all before tomorrow when Camp NaNo starts. Shall be fun! Sure can’t wait for tomorrow! I check back in then!
